Unpile

Free Chrome extension to delete thousands of Gmail emails in two clicks: filters, preview, one-click undo, no server.

github.com/gekkode-dev/unpile

Unpile is a free Chrome extension that deletes thousands of Gmail emails in two clicks. You choose what to clear (old promotions, everything one sender has sent, large attachments, messages older than three years), you see the exact count and a preview, then everything goes to the bin, with a one-click undo. It frees up space in the 15 GB that a Google account offers, without a paid service.

Unpile is free.

What Unpile does

  • Six quick clean-ups: promotions older than six months, social networks older than three months, notifications older than a year, emails over 10 MB, emails never opened and older than a year, everything older than three years.
  • Menu-based filters: sender or whole domain, subject words, age, category, attachments, read or unread, size. Unpile writes the Gmail search for you.
  • An exact count and a preview before any action. Only the emails found are processed, and new ones are never touched.
  • The bin by default, recoverable for 30 days and undoable in one click. Permanent deletion, which frees the space straight away, asks you to type a confirmation word.
  • Background work in Chrome’s side panel, up to 100,000 emails per run, with automatic resume after an interruption.

Free, and serverless

Unpile has no paid plan, no ads and no account to create. The extension talks directly to the Gmail API, the official entry point Google opens to applications, from your browser. Your emails go through no third-party server and nothing is collected. The details are in the privacy policy.

Source code and how-to

The code of the extension and of its website is public on GitHub. For the step-by-step method, the difference between the bin and permanent deletion, and the extension’s limits, read our guide to bulk deleting Gmail emails.

Unpile works in Google Chrome on desktop, with an English interface. Gmail is a trademark of Google LLC, and Unpile is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by Google.
